This year’s Open Data Institute (ODI) Summit, Data <> Futures, took place online on 2 November and we were thrilled to welcome MediaFutures as one of the key sponsors.

Over 1,500 delegates from 94 countries joined for a truly international virtual event, featuring more than 40 panels, talks and roundtables, along with interactive artworks, poetry, films and – for the first time this year – a gameshow.

The line-up of 134 inspirational speakers included Professor Elena Simperl from the Department of Informatics, King’s College London, who joined a panel session on ‘Disinformed and Misinforming: Is data the problem or the cure?’, moderated by Olivier Thereaux, Head of Research and Development at the ODI.

A recording of Elena’s session will be available on the ODI’s YouTube channel in the coming weeks.

MediaFutures also hosted a virtual booth at ODI Summit 2021, where we premiered a short film about the programme.

In the film, Elena Simperl gives an overview of the competition and looks ahead to the next two years, while Hugues Vinet (Director of Innovation and Research Means at IRCAM) gives a summary of the three MediaFutures tracks. We also meet the winners from the first open call: Gokind (winner of the Startups for Citizens category); artists Dejha Ti and Ania Catherine, whose artwork Soft Evidence won the Artists for Media track; and Biblio-Graph (winner of the Startup Meets Artist track).
