King’s College London

King’s College London (KCL) is one of the top 10 UK universities in the world, and the Department of Informatics is in the top 10 of Computer Science departments in the UK. The department hosts research groups focusing on algorithms and data analysis, cybersecurity, distributed artificial intelligence, human centred computing, reasoning and planning, and software systems. Members of the group have worldwide reputation in interdisciplinary research, knowledge transfer and community building.

KCL was the technical lead of MediaFutures. It provided expert guidance to the consortium on areas including interdisciplinary collaboration, machine learning, and human data interaction. Through this, KCL enabled MediaFutures to deliver high-quality resources and support to programme participants, and to research and capture best practice to enable future programmes to do the same. As lead of WP4, data innovation toolkit and support, KCL drove and oversaw the development of the resources for MediaFutures participants, and the data and innovation toolkit. It also lead on the development of tracks and challenges for MediaFutures’ Open Calls, supporting WP1 lead ZABALA.

Prof Elena Simperl, the PI for KCL, and Dr Gefion Thuermer, researcher on related projects DataPitch and ACTION, bring extensive experience in running open calls and accelerators, interdisciplinary collaboration (including successful science-art collaborations), human-data interaction and toolkit development.
