The ODI was co-founded in 2012 by the inventor of the web Sir Tim Berners-Lee and artificial intelligence expert Sir Nigel Shadbolt to show the value of data, and to advocate for the innovative use of data to affect positive change across the globe. We’re an independent, non-profit, non-partisan company headquartered in London, with an international reach. We work with companies and governments to build an open, trustworthy data ecosystem, where people can make better decisions using data and manage any harmful impacts.
The ODI brings a wealth of experience and expertise in supporting startups and artists to develop innovative solutions, including Data As Culture, a world-class contemporary art programme that exhibits and commissions artworks that use data as an art material, and the ODI Startup Incubator, which supported early stage startups that used open data as part of their business model.
In MediaFutures, the ODI team – Orsola De Marco, Vicky Hallam and Ellen Goodman – will support partners to deliver the Open Calls, the data innovation toolkit and support, and the overall promotion of the programme.
