Startups for Citizens
The Startups for Citizens track aims at supporting startups developing innovative ideas, products, services and business models, which encourage broader and more meaningful engagement with information and the way it is communicated and shared.
The focus will be on areas of public interest: journalism, including bottom-up forms, science education, and digital democracy. Startups selected from the Open Call will go to the START phase, where they will receive a grant of €5,000, and have one month to develop their proposal further. Following a pitch competition at the end of the START phase, half of them will then jump to the BUILD phase and receive up to €50,000 and six months of support to dvelop their solution. An additional €10,000 will be awarded to the startup receiving the prize at the final demo day.
The startups will be followed by monitors from the MediaFutures partner NMA. These monitors will assess their needs and how MediaFutures can support them over the 6 month period.
