The collaborative MediaFutures Project HYPERViz by Startup Scan World and artist Frederik de Wilde has made great progress in the past weeks and designed their first version of a prototype.
The team dedicates its work to the field of hyperspectral imagery and is aiming to make complex data accessible to the general public on a global scale:
“We plan to deliver a digital experience, as broadly accessible as Google Earth, built from multi-layered imaging of hyperspectral data in an artistic, experiential and intuitive way that ‘speaks’ to the general public in a way that empirical data cannot”.
The video below shows an extract of the first prototype application. By moving through 200 hyperspectral layers, the team has successfully integrated geospatial data into the ecosystem.

For their next steps HYPERviz is planning another impactful experience for the viewer: They will visualize and animate the plastic pollution in the Pacific Ocean, which has grown to a waste carpet with the size of Texas. Hyperviz representation of hyperspectral imagery will manage to visualize the problem – clearly and unyieldingly comprehensible to us all.
